The Model Prayer Extended
Our Lord Jesus Christ gave us a model prayer.  Here we extend that model prayer with prayers from Scripture and prayers of the Early Church.  Perhaps this will help you in your praying.  You may want to include this prayer in your daily prayers.

(Let us prepare ourselves to worship)

GLORIOUS GOD,

It is the flame of our life to worship You,
      the crown and glory of our soul to adore You,
      heavenly pleasure to approach You.

Give us power by Your Spirit to help us worship now,
             that we may forget the world,
                             be brought into fullness of life,
                             be refreshed, comforted, blessed.

Give us knowledge of Your goodness
             that we may not be over-awed by Your greatness.
Let us live wholly to our Savior,
               free from distractions,
               from carking care,
               from hindrances to our walk in the narrow way.

We are pardoned through the blood of Jesus -
               give us a new sense of it,
               that we may live in the reality of it,
               that we may always worship You
               in spirit and in truth.

OUR FATHER WHO ART IN HEAVEN -
Glory to You in the highest,
and peace to Your people on earth.

Lord God, heavenly King,
almighty God and Father,
we worship You, we give You thanks,
we praise You for Your glory.

Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father,
Lord God, Lamb of God,
You take away the sin of the world:
have mercy on us;
You are seated at the right hand of the Father:
receive our prayer.

For you alone are the Holy One,
You alone are the Lord,
You alone are the Most High,
Jesus Christ,
with the Holy Spirit,
in the glory of God the Father.

HALLOWED BE THY NAME - THY KINGDOM COME -
You are God: we praise You;
You are the Lord: we acclaim You;
You are the eternal Father:
All creation worships You.
To You all angels, all the powers of heaven,
Cherubim and Seraphim, sing in endless praise:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of Your glory.

Splendor and honor and kingly power
are Yours by right, O Lord our God,
For You created everything that is,
and by Your will they were created and have their being.

And Yours by right, O Lamb that was slain,
for with Your blood You have redeemed for God,
From every family, language, people, and nation,
a kingdom of priests to serve our God.

You, Christ, are the king of glory,
the eternal Son of the Father.
When You became man to set us free
You did not shun the Virgin's womb.
You overcame the sting of death
and opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers.
You are seated at God's right hand in glory.

And so, to Him who sits upon the throne,
and to Christ the Lamb,
Be worship and praise, dominion and splendor,
for ever and for evermore.

THY WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN -
Our Father, grant that we may be filled with the deep and clear knowledge of Your will with comprehensive insight into Your ways and purposes and in understanding and discernment of spiritual things.

Grant that we may live and conduct ourselves in a manner worthy of Your Name, fully pleasing You in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily growing and increasing in and by the knowledge of You.

Grant that we may be invigorated and strengthened with all power, according to the might of Your glory, to exercise every kind of endurance and patience with joy, giving You thanks for qualifying us and making us fit to share the portion which is the inheritance of the saints in the Light.

GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD -
Almighty God,
to whom our needs are known before we ask: Help us to ask only what accords with Your will; and those good things which we dare not, or in our blindness cannot ask, grant us for the sake of Your Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our
being: We humbly pray You so to guide and govern us by Your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget You, but may remember that we are ever walking in Your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Our Father, may our love abound yet more and more and extend to its fullest development in knowledge and keen insight, so that we may surely learn to sense what is vital, and approve and prize what is excellent and of real value, that we may approach the day of Christ not stumbling or causing others to stumble.

May we abound in and be filled with the fruits of righteousness which come through Jesus Christ, the Anointed One, that Your glory may be both manifested and recognized.

(You may want to add your own petitions at this time)

AND FORGIVE US OUR DEBTS-
Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against You
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved You with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.

We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.

For the sake of Your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in Your will,
and walk in Your ways,
to the glory of Your Name.

(You may want to confess specific sins at this time)

We humbly beseech You, O Father, mercifully to look upon our infirmities; and, for the glory of Your Name, turn from us all those evils that we most justly have deserved; and grant that in all our troubles we may put our whole trust and confidence in Your mercy, and evermore serve You in holiness and pureness of living, to Your honor and glory; through our only Mediator and Advocate, Jesus Christ our Lord.

AS WE FORGIVE OUR DEBTORS -
Our Father
, grant us out of the rich treasury of Your glory to be strengthened and reinforced with mighty power in our inner self by the Holy Spirit indwelling our innermost being and personality.

May Christ through faith actually abide and make His permanent home in our hearts. May we be rooted deep in love and founded securely on love, that we may have the power to grasp with all Christians the experience of that love, what is the breadth and length and height and depth of it.

May we really come to know through experience for ourselves the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge without experience, that we may be filled through all our being with Your fullness; that we may have the richest measure of your divine Presence, and that You will completely fill us with Yourself.

(You may want to pray for specific difficult people at this time)

LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL -
O God, the King eternal,
whose light divides the day from the night and turns the shadow of death into the morning: Drive far from us all wrong desires, incline our hearts to keep Your law, and guide our feet into the way of peace; that, having done Your will with cheerfulness during the day, we may, when night comes, rejoice to give You thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

O God, the author of peace and lover of concord, to know You is eternal life and to serve You is perfect freedom: Defend us, Your humble servants, in all assaults of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in Your defense, may not fear the power of any adversaries; through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Our Father,
Grant us the Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation in the deep and intimate knowledge of You.  Grant that the eyes of our heart may be flooded with light, so that we may know and understand the hope to which You have called us and how rich is Your glorious inheritance in the saints, so that we can understand what is the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of Your power toward us who believe, which is the same power that raised Jesus from the dead and seated Him at Your right hand.

FOR THINE IS THE KINGDOM AND THE POWER AND THE GLORY FOR EVER AND EVER.
Almighty God, Father of all mercies,
we your unworthy servants give You humble thanks
for all Your goodness and loving-kindness
to us and to all whom You have made.
We bless You for our creation, preservation,
and all the blessings of this life;
but above all for Your immeasurable love
in the redemption of the church by our Lord Jesus Christ;
for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.
And, we pray, give us such an awareness of Your mercies,
that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth Your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives,
by giving up our selves to Your service,
and by walking before You
in holiness and righteousness all our days;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
to whom, with You and the Holy Spirit,
be honor and glory throughout all ages.

(You may want to give thanks for specific blessings at this time)

Almighty God, Who has promised to hear the petitions of those who ask in Your Son's Name: We beseech You mercifully to incline Your ear to us who have now made our prayers and supplications unto You; and grant that those things which we have asked faithfully according to Your will, may be obtained effectually, to the relief of our necessity, and to the setting forth of Your glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

AMEN !
