GOD IS FAITHFUL
By A. Gene Veal

“God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.” 1Corinthians 1:9

God does not love you less today because of what you did yesterday.  GOD IS FAITHFUL to do what He has promised.  God loves faithfully.  God does not HAVE love, GOD IS LOVE.  God defines “love”.  Love does not define God.  Natural human love is based on the object of its love.  Natural human love is to love you because ____ (you are so cute, you do something for me, I benefit from you, you are the best, you are the most beautiful, or because you are faithful, etc.).

God’s love is based on Himself.  He IS love.  His love for you has nothing to do with you.  He doesn’t love you BECAUSE of anything about you.  His love is about Him.  His reason to love comes from within Himself.  He is not acted upon or motivated to love.  His love being based on Himself (Who never changes) gives us assurance.  His love will never change because He never changes.

That means we can depend on His love.  He loves us infinitely.  He cannot love us more and He Who does not change will never love us less.  There is no “up and down” with His love.  “So we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love.”  We know that when we confessed our sinfulness, admitting that we “all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”, He was “faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

The assurance of our salvation is based on the fact that GOD IS FAITHFUL.  We live “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began.”  The Scripture declares of Him that He “does not lie or change his mind; for he is not a man, that he should change his mind.”  He is the only One “with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”  He says of Himself, "I the LORD do not change.”  And of our Lord the Word declares, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever

“Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God.”  That is His Name.  Our Lord is “called Faithful and True.”   When Paul tells the Thessalonians “the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ”, lest you miss it, he follows with “Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.”  God is the One who will “sanctify you wholly” and God’s faithfulness is our assurance that our “whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”  It is HIS FAITHFULNESS, not ours, “but the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.”  “FAITHFUL IS HE that calleth you, who also WILL DO IT.”  “Salvation is of the LORD.”   Rest in HIS FAITHFULNESS.

Let me say it again, as His love is not dependent on us, so His faithfulness is not dependent on us.  “If we are faithless, he abideth faithful; for he cannot deny himself.”  “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

Oh, Christian, what joyful assurance, what confidence we can have, how easily we rest when we know “God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.”   WE CAN TRUST HIM!!!

“This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.  It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.  The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him
