refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times
of trouble.

in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his
pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me;
he shall set me up upon a rock.

Ps 94:12-14 Blessed (happy,
fortunate, to be envied) is the man whom You discipline and instruct, O
Lord, and teach out of Your law, that You may
give him power to keep himself calm in the days of adversity,
until the [inevitable] pit of corruption is dug for the wicked. For the Lord

heritage.

him who has no might He increases strength [causing it to multiply and
making it to abound].

Cor 3:5 Not that we are fit (qualified and sufficient in ability) of
ourselves to form personal judgments or to claim or count anything as
coming from us, but
our
power and ability and sufficiency are from God.
2Cor 12:9 But he said to me, "My
grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."
Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses,
so that Christ's power may rest on me.

TROUBLING OURSELVES
Luke 12:21-23
So it is with the one who continues to lay up and hoard possessions for
himself and is not rich [in his relation] to God [this is how he fares]. And
[Jesus] said to His disciples, therefore I tell you,
do not be anxious and troubled [with cares]
about your life, as to what you will [have to] eat; or about your
body, as to what you will [have to] wear. For life is more than food, and
the body [more] than clothes.
Luke 12:28-30
But if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today, and
tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you, O you
[people] of little faith? And you, do not
seek [by meditating and reasoning to inquire into] what you are to eat and
what you are to drink; nor be of anxious (troubled) mind [unsettled,
excited, worried, and in suspense]; for all the pagan world is
[greedily] seeking these things, and your Father knows that you need them.
John 14:1
DO NOT let your hearts be troubled
(distressed, agitated). You believe in and adhere to and trust in
and rely on God; believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely also on Me.
John 14:26-27
But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener,
Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My
place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things.
And He will cause you to recall (will remind you of, bring to your
remembrance) everything I have told you. Peace I leave with you; My [own]
peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to
you. Do
not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing
yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be
fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]
Hebrews 11:8-9
[Urged on] by faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed and went forth to a
place which he was destined to receive as an inheritance; and he went,
although he did not know or trouble his mind
about where he was to go. [Prompted] by faith he dwelt as a
temporary resident in the land which was designated in the promise [of God,
though he was like a stranger] in a strange country, living in tents with
Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs with him of the same promise.
Genesis 50:19-21Then
his brothers went and fell down before him, saying, See, we are your
servants (your slaves)! And Joseph said to them, Fear not; for am I in the
place of God? [Vengeance is His, not mine.] As for you, you thought evil
against me, but God meant it for good,
to bring about that many people should be kept alive, as they are this day.
Romans 5:2-4
Through Him also we have [our] access (entrance, introduction) by faith into
this grace (state of God's favor) in which we [firmly and safely] stand.
And let us rejoice and exult in our hope of
experiencing and enjoying the glory of God. Moreover [let us also
be full of joy now!] let us exult and triumph in our troubles and rejoice in
our sufferings, knowing that pressure and affliction and hardship
produce patient and unswerving endurance. And endurance (fortitude) develops
maturity of character (approved faith and tried integrity). And character
[of this sort] produces [the habit of] joyful and confident hope of eternal
salvation.
2 Corinthians 1:3-5
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of
sympathy (pity and mercy) and the God [Who is the Source] of every comfort
(consolation and encouragement), Who comforts
(consoles and encourages) us in every trouble (calamity and affliction), so
that we may also be able to comfort (console and encourage) those who are in
any kind of trouble or distress, with the comfort (consolation and
encouragement) with which we ourselves are comforted (consoled and
encouraged) by God.
For just as Christ's [own] sufferings fall to our lot [as they
overflow upon His disciples, and we share and experience them] abundantly,
so through Christ comfort (consolation and encouragement) is also [shared
and experienced] abundantly by us.
2 Corinthians 12:8-10
Three times I called upon the Lord and besought [Him] about this and begged
that it might depart from me; but He said to me,
My grace (My favor and loving-kindness and
mercy) is enough for you [sufficient against any danger and enables you to
bear the trouble manfully]; for My strength and power are made perfect
(fulfilled and completed) and show themselves most effective in [your]
weakness. Therefore, I will
all the more gladly glory in my weaknesses and infirmities, that the
strength and power of Christ (the
Messiah) may rest (yes, may pitch a tent over and dwell) upon me!
So for the sake of Christ, I am well pleased and
take pleasure in infirmities, insults, hardships, persecutions, perplexities
and distresses; for when I am weak [in human strength], then am I [truly]
strong (able, powerful in divine strength).
James 1:2-4
Consider it wholly joyful, my brethren,
whenever you are enveloped in or encounter trials of any sort or fall into
various temptations. Be
assured and understand that the trial and proving of your faith bring out
endurance and steadfastness and patience. But let endurance and
steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that
you may be [people] perfectly and fully developed [with no defects], lacking
in nothing.
